The excellent Corgi replica of their first ever James Bond “Goldfinger” Aston Martin DB5, finished in silver for the first time!The model (Corgi no.RT26101S) measures approximately 4″ (102mm) in length, & features pop-up bullet shield working ejector seat & opp-out front & rear over-riders.It comes with the “Top Secret” instruction envelope, 007 Lapel badge, & ejector seat figure. It is presented in a faithfully reproduced card box with artwork from the original issue, & is new, mint & boxed.Corgi says: The most famous CORGI model of them all returns in a brand-new release to commemorate the 60th anniversary of the iconic James Bond film ‘Goldfinger.’ First released in 1965, this classic toy is the biggest selling die-cast car of all time. This is a newly tooled version of the classic 261 Aston Martin DB5, featuring all the legendary action features of the original, including the working ejector seat, pop up rear bullet shield and spring out over-riders and machine guns. For 2024, the 261 arrives in the iconic Silver Birch paint finish of the real car for the first time ever!Corgi says this about the original gold model released in 1963: Arguably the most famous Corgi Toy ever produced, the feature packed model was rush-released just in time for 1965’s festive season. In only seven weeks Corgi sold three-quarters of a million of this marvellous model, causing stocks to completely run out by Christmas Day. Despite this huge number (it went on to sell just under four million!), fully-working mint condition examples in their original boxes are extremely rare and valuable today. As to why the model was painted gold – unlike Bond’s silver DB5 in the movies – the story goes that Corgi bosses were concerned that the silver painted factory samples they were shown looked too much like ‘base metal’. Any production delay would have meant the model not being in the shops in time for Christmas, so the quick decision was made to paint it in gold. The thinking was that gold would make the DB5 look more ‘special’ as a toy – a thought process no doubt influenced by the previous year’s Bond movie, Goldfinger!A silver version, Corgi 270, was eventually released in 1968, which coincided with the original gold Corgi 261 being deleted.
